Karen Flyer’s background in branding, marketing, advertising/PR and non-profit management has allowed her to hone her expertise for providing marketing and fundraising solutions for local businesses and non-profits. Karen received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Duke University in 1991 and spent the three years following in mergers and acquisitions at an investment banking boutique in Charlotte, North Carolina where she became the firm’s first marketing manager. In 1996, she received her Master in Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where her focus was in marketing.
Following business school, Karen spent five years in brand management at Procter & Gamble where she launched a pharmaceutical product (developing all professional marketing materials and advertising campaigns), led the development of the company’s first cross-sector women’s health platform, and facilitated collaborations with retailers and academic institutions. Following her tenure at P&G, Karen served as a senior account director for Co-Active Marketing group in the Cincinnati office of this New York-based advertising agency. While at Co-Active, Karen provided vision and strategic direction and developed integrated marketing strategies for clients within the agency. Karen then served as Marketing Director for Martin Flyer, Inc., where she led and coordinated all marketing functions for the diamond jewelry manufacturer, including establishment of consumer and customer brand equities and overseeing all advertising and PR efforts.
After her stint in the for-profit world, Karen joined the non-profit sector, serving as Executive Director for two non-profits where she was the CEO of the organizations. Her responsibilities included strategic planning; creating marketing, communications and development plans; PR and social media strategies; fundraising, grant-writing and event planning; budgeting and program creation and evaluation; volunteer and staff management; and donor cultivation, donor stewardship and community outreach and development.
